Christantus Uche Ignites Straightforward Palace Win at Shelbourne.
Despite embarking on their first-ever continental campaign, Crystal Palace are learning at a rapid pace. Missing star players like striker Jean-Philippe Mateta and wing-back Daniel Muñoz, the London club departed Dublin with a commanding win that all but secures them a place in the Conference League qualifying rounds.
A further three points in their next match against Finland's KuPS should be sufficient to seal direct passage to the knockout stages, especially after a previous stumble against Strasbourg.
Fringe Players Seize the Opportunity
This occasion provided a platform for several Palace's lesser-used players to shine. Christantus Uche, in only his second start after joining on loan from Getafe, notched the account with a clinical finish. Striker Eddie Nketiah contributed a another, scoring for the second consecutive match.
A Shelbourne side that had finished their league season proved outmatched against a mostly second-string Palace lineup. The Londoners were already weakened by the news that Mateta and Muñoz are out with knee injuries.
Dominance Asserted from the Start
Despite torrential rain in Dublin, Palace quickly took control. A slick move in the 11th minute, sparked by Daichi Kamada's incisive pass, let Nketiah to set up Uche for a straightforward finish.
Midfielder Adam Wharton went close minutes later, driving a long-range shot over the bar. Nketiah subsequently appealed for a penalty after racing into the box, but the official dismissed the appeals.

Shelbourne were hanging on desperately. Full-back Kameron Ledwidge was lucky to escape a booking for a couple of agricultural tackles on Yeremy Pino, before Chris Richards struck the woodwork with a powerful header from a corner.

The match was as good as over eight minutes from half-time. Yeremy Pino meandered past some comically weak challenges before calmly slotting a shot past goalkeeper Wessel Speel to extend the lead to 3-0.
Following the break, manager Oliver Glasner seized the opportunity to rest several individuals like Kamada and Wharton. Replacement Romain Esse came close to scoring his first touch, but saw his effort blocked.
The youngster was incredibly unlucky later on, seeing one shot crash off each posts before being gathered on the line. Uche then missed a sitter of a chance, indicating there is still scope for development in his game.
The only concern for Palace was a second-half injury to Justin Devenny, who was forced off. This paved the way for 17-year-old forward Benji Casey to make his first-team debut, rounding off an otherwise positive evening for the traveling side.
