Rob Edwards and O'Neil are two of the initial names in the frame to succeed Vitor Pereira as head coach of Wolves.
Pereira was dismissed on the weekend following the squad's ten-game winless beginning to the Premier League campaign.
Furthermore Edwards and O'Neil - both of who have historic associations to the club - are among the names to be considered by the Wolves leadership.
The manager is currently at another club, which would pose a possible hurdle to his hiring at Wolves' stadium.
However the ex- Luton manager - who played over a century of games for the club during his time as a player - is considered a strong candidate for the position.
The mid-career manager is reportedly enjoys support from the club directors as they start the process of hiring a new manager.
Gary O'Neil is also emerging as a unexpected candidate, even though he would be a shock appointment given he was released by the club in December last year.
The former West Ham United player is currently unemployed which means Wolves would not need to pay any compensation.
