Jurgen Klopp says rejoining to manage Liverpool is theoretically possible.
The German coach, who stepped down from Anfield in 2024, indicated that a future comeback remains an option. Klopp, after a transformative nine-season tenure which brought a European Cup triumph and the Reds’ first league title in 30 years, now holds positions overseeing worldwide football with the Red Bull group and as an advisor with the German Football League.
Supporters’ Hopes and His Frank Comments
The club claimed the Premier League under Arne Slot, though countless followers holding him in high esteem would welcome the possibility that he might come back one day. Speaking candidly, he told Steven Bartlett: “I stated I will never coach another team in England. So that means should it be the Reds...yeah. In theory, it could happen.”
“I’m 58, so I might decide in a few years, it's uncertain. Must I choose now? Then I will not coach again. Luckily, I don’t have to do that. I'll simply watch what the future brings.”
Conditions for a Comeback
Questioned regarding which situations would need to occur to bring him back to the touchline, he confessed he isn't eager to such a return. “I'm not entirely sure, I enjoy my current role,” he stated. “No longing for management; I don’t miss standing under bad weather through long matches; I don’t miss going to interviews four times, three times a week or doing numerous chats a week.
“I don’t miss the dressing room in that context, but sitting in a restaurant with the team having a nice chat, is pleasant. Success was frequent thus frequently great spirits at the club. I can still hear the captain's chuckle in my ear to illustrate.”
Commending Arne Slot
He spoke highly regarding Arne Slot, acknowledging his role for the adjustments that won the league last campaign. They've been defeated four consecutive matches in all competitions post heavy investment, yet he dismissed the suggestion that it might signal a decline.
“[Liverpool have] a phenomenal forward in Flo[rian] Wirtz, doubters will be silenced if spoken against. An outstanding player. [Hugo] Ekitike, excellent performer. This is a well-built thoughtfully assembled roster. Fans shouldn't fret regarding the Reds, they'll bounce back.”
Emotional Tribute for the Late Forward
Klopp also spoke emotionally about the death of Jota, whom he brought in while in charge, along with the consequences for the team. Jota died tragically in a car crash together with his sibling recently.
“Can you substitute such an individual? This isn't just regarding his footballing ability, it's his character. It's hard to picture the squad without him in it. I still cannot speak properly regarding this. A profound tragedy for all the boys as well. No one within the club might employ it to justify results though it's a fact. You walk in a dressing room where his spirit remains. Handling this on a personal level is not easy. Impossible.”
