Kansas City Chiefs State They Are Aware of Alleged Abuse Claims Connected to Player the Athlete
The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement Wednesday night confirming they are aware of claims of abuse circulated in online accounts by a ex-partner of wide receiver Rashee Rice and had been in contact with the league office.
The organization did not mention Rice specifically in their announcement and noted they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Claims Shared on Social Media
Dacoda Nichole Jones, who also did not mention Rice by name, shared a set of images on social media that appeared to show signs of physical abuse. Jones stated the individual in question was the father of her children, and reports indicate she has two children with Rice, whom the Chiefs selected in the 2023 draft.
Police Reports Reportedly Unavailable
No police reports were available in Overland Park, Kansas where the incident is said to have occurred.
Player's Recent Off-Field Troubles
Rice was absent for the initial part of this season following an NFL suspension for his role in causing a crash on a Texas roadway that left multiple people hurt. Rice was given a month of incarceration and five years’ probation after entering a guilty plea to felony charges.
On the field, Rice concluded the year with 53 catches for 571 yards and five touchdowns as the Kansas City went with a losing record and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first occasion in a ten-year span.
