Manchester United Set to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants
The Women's Super League club are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.
A Marquee Acquisition for United
Schüller, who has six months left on her deal, has been a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival is viewed as a marquee coup for the Women’s Super League team.
Departure from Munich has been anticipated after she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
Reports in late December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top strikers. Per reports, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.
Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen the Attack
The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a significant uplift to the team's forward line. Schüller has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.
- For seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Building Steam at Carrington
The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club appear to be gathering momentum.
Recent performances include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the winter break has seen further business:
- The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023.
On the midfielder's new deal, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
The new defender, having arrived from a club in the American league, added: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
